I couldn't find ya for a while, but I'm glad I did tonight. I sure do miss this format, and missed being here. Glad to see some familiar names too. I hope all are healthy, wealthy (state of mind for sure) and wise.

I'm here, too, about once a week, and really enjoy "hearing" from everyone. This one is SO easy to use for questions and answers...I'm from NW Illinois, about 6 miles from the Wisconsin border and about 45 miles from the Iowa border.

I stop in occasionally. Like most all of you folks, I've been busy putting up veggies and butchering chickens!! Here in Maine we're just waiting for all this hot and humid weather to leave! Really looking forward to winter and RELAXING :-)!!

Been a while since i've visited. Still raising dogs and have added mini cows (dexters). Our mini bull is sure cute. don't know a thing about cows but it's never to late to learn.

Mini-cows...that's sounds cool!! I've often thought about a mini breed of cattle, either Irish Dexters or Scottish Highlands. They seem to be alot easier to manage...especially for us older folks :-)!! Can you give me a little bit more info about the dexters?? Can you milk them?

-- Marcia (HrMr@webtv.net), September 03, 2002.

Have you seen those mini Jerseys, Marcia? Soooo cool!

-- Patty (SycamoreHollow@aol.com), September 03, 2002.

Don't know a thing about my Dexters, in fact i had never even touched a cow (including the ones i bought) until they arrived! They are registered, for whatever that's worth. The man I got them from said you have to breed a short legged cow to a long legged so as not to have birth defects. Thats the extent of my knowledge. My bull is about waist high and is about nine months old, and about as cute as they come.

I'm new here, but I plan on visiting daily. Tried of the sites that I visit that say their into "self-sufficant living" then end up talking about each other. I'd love to see this forum really take off, I don't mind a little chatter, love it. But I'd like to get with people that want to talk about things like heating with wood, living in the woods, gardening where it ain't that easy.
