TMPGenc produces better cuts and joins and is free compared to those; it just takes a little getting used to. To cut, file>mpeg tools then merge & cut tab. Put your MPEG file in the window, double click on it, then a slider/viewer combo comes out, where you dictate exactly where the cut should be, then TMPGenc puts out the split files. To merge include the files in same window and figure it out. It's flexible in that you can choose which parts of which MPEG files to merge. To make the resulting files fully VCD compliant you choose the appropriate template as well.

TMPGEnc is the best available but sadly, it's not free. After two weeks of using the demo, you'll have to shell out $50 US for the full version.

The only thing about TMPGenc disabled after said time period is the MPEG-2 encoding capability, important only to SVCD and DVD enthusiasts. MPEG tools can still be used. Either way $48 is a fair price to pay for a program that does what it does superbly, as opposed to bloated, overhyped, and ultimately poor-quality MPEG encoders that cost upwards of $500 like Terran MediaCleaner.

Hi dudes, i used TMPG to cut my mpgs but the second part of the file does not play to the end of it even though i set the cut to the end... it looses sound when there is like 5 mins left.. why???

I've found TMPEGEnc to be very poor for cutting mpegs into multiple segments.

I've tried to cut some of my mpegs in to multiple segments using TMPEGEnc and then re-join them using TMPEGEnc to see how well they would re-join, but I've always found the resulting new file to be corrupted.

At the exact point where the cut was made there would be a picture and sound problem, and the new re-joined file would have a shorter running time and a smaller file size than the original that was cut.

MPEG is a poor format for cutting, TMPG seems to be the best solution to mpeg editing withough having to reencode the file.
