Hi there!

Good day! I am writing my term paper in english and the title of my term paper is THE WORKS AND THE LIFE OF EDGAR ALLAN POE. Now, I just want to ask if why is it that POE couldn't write a poem when he is not drunk.

I'll be expecting a response. I hope that you won't let me down. THANKS AND GOD BLESS!

Poe never wrote a poem WHEN HE WAS drunk, except, perhaps, the somewhat dubious "Lines on Ale" -- only possibly authentic.

The real question might be, have YOU been drinking?

In fact a lot of lost lines mentioned in some histories may have been done in such places but few, if any, of Poe's print opus can be traced back to those cheery probably embarassing and careless efforts. Even when Poe casually dashed off serious verse or expressed some deep feeling he later spent a lot of grueling, sober hours refining the art of his verse. Many of his poems, though short, have been edited and reedited, if anything with very dispassionate analytical craftsmanship.
