Have just spoken to fiance who works with gentleman whose wife is a barrister. She has advised that the Limitations Act paragraphs are worded quite badly but what they actually mean is that if you are separate you are not liable for someone else admitting liability, what it means is if she were to win the lottery (chance would be a fine thing) and pay off the entire debt, that would clear the debt for all persons liable, also if a portion were paid off also. If you read one of the sections it actually states an acknowledgement only applies to the acknowledger and successors and nobody else. So I can breathe a bit of a sigh of relief now as she has caused us enough problems without us having to start the 12 years from when she began paying!! Hope this helps, appreciate all the advice.
