I am pretty sure the theme is that you can't ignore a plague even if it has not endured itsef in you. The red death was a disease... There is a man who makes a deal with the devil to dress up as a gruesome man at the Princes ball. He does and when ppl try to kill him the devil takes over (or at least thats wat i think)
