Had a good Yard Sale day!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : CountrySide Family : One Thread

I'm having a yard sale today, tomorrow & Saturday. Today was pretty good-made $118.40, many of the people said they'd be back tomorrow to buy more since Friday is payday. It was really hot today & I'm sunburned but overall it was a good day. It's interesting what folks buy; the first thing that went was all the CD's & telephone equiptment like a caller ID box & answering machine. I need to go find more stuff for tomorrow, after this weekend I may finally see the back of the spare bedroom! I will be putting some of the homesteader type books & natural health books on here when I get them sorted out. I collect books and I'm to the point that I need to either sell some or build a library. Have a great night.

Great Kathy! I need to do that, but I would have to haul everything somewhere else to do it! :-/

I always include some of my left over flea market retail stock in my yard sales.

Yep, same here, Patty. Don't think I'd make too much with about 3 people a day coming down our road. About 10 years ago, I got rid of everything except clothes and some kitchen essentials so I'm lucky to not have years of stuff around. We don't really have the room to store yard sale items and the idea of packing it all up and having a sale in town doesn't seem very cost effective, so we usually donate what we decide needs to go immediately. I like the feeling of getting it out of the house ASAP and helping charity in the process. :o) (Oh, I'm working on my ghost story but I keep getting interrupted by children!! Will post it soon, I hope...)

Yup, all the books related to homesteading & natural health will be placed here at least one month before they go to the next sale. I have a retail flea market & craft business so some of my sales at this sale were 'slow movers' at the flea markets-surprisingly they sold great at the yard sale for the same price. Go figure!! I had a bunch of bluegrass, country, banjo & Native American CD's- they sold out by 8:30, maybe I priced them too low-$2.50 each and some were still in their plastic wrappers! I didn't have the sale at the farm but at our other place within the city limits that we're renovating. It's only about 3 blocks from the Courthouse Square and the main road leading from town so the traffic is heavy. The only down side is having to haul all the stuff 12 miles each way, there's no way I'd leave anything in an empty house overnight. We had someone break out a window to get into the empty house(it's stripped down to the studs) and sleep in there so I figure if there had been anything in there of value it would have been stolen. I'm thinking about renovating it to be a shop for my business so I could sell more on my time schedule than just weekends at the flea markets. I'm still not sure- it will either become a shop or sold if I decide to move from KY. The 'city' house & 1 acre is zoned as residential/commercial so a shop would work and there's already a nice paved parking area. Has anyone opened a shop lately? Any pitfalls in your opinion? I had my own shop in Wisconsin but that was 8 yrs ago & times have changed so if you know of any areas to be especially concerned about please share. I already have my business insurance which was a big concern of mine-folks like to sue for just about anything these days.:(

No advice, I just wanted to say I'm jealous! I've always wanted to have a little shop. :-)

I have my flea market stuff in a lowboy covered trailer with lift up sides that forms its own shop.
