Youth Mass

Could someone explain to me how a Youth Mass differs from a regular Sunday Mass. Is the music different? Homily? Just Curious.

It's so strange knowing that Fred won't be answering this post. I miss him. He sure kept things livened up!

Love,

Gail

Youth Mass usually has music that is somewhat more modern (and normally not featuring organ music), and the ones I have attended usually have the youth handle the duties of ushers, greeters, musicians, lectors, etc. Also, the homily is usually (though not always) given to reach this particular congregation. Often the youth group meets just before or just after this Mass.

Hi Gail,

I used to be involved with the CYO and we had a Youth Mass once a month. It was usually the 5:00 Mass on Saturday, and I confirm what GT said. The Youth do the readings, are Eucharistic Ministers, ushers, and the homily is directed towards them. It gives the kids a chance to truly participate in the Mass and they love it! Oh, yes, they get to pick the music for the Mass as well..it is very nice, really.

As for your comments about Fred, I miss him too - very much. He responded to every post, was so knowledgeable about the church, and he sure did liven things up, didn't he? It sure is strange without him...Can you imagine how Carolyn must be feeling? Her whole life is changed forever. Sounds like they truly enjoyed each other.

Maybe I will send her an e-mail sympathy card..I don't know if she will be on the computer very much, though.

Ours was 6pm every Sunday night, it was really popular with families in general, as well as people who traveled over the weekend and couldn't make it to Mass any other time.

Ours is at 6pm to on Sunday. This Mass is very popular. I counted 148 people standing in the back of the Church at the last Youth Mass I was at. I think it is a great way to keep the younger ones coming to Mass.

At our parish we have a "Life Teen" Mass. Life Teen is an organization that was started by Monsignor Dale Fushek here in Arizona. Now Life Teen is all over the world. The teens at our parish even play the music during the Mass, and one of the young men in the band is writing his own Christian music that is used during the Mass. It's very popular, and even alot of the older folks attend it. Right after the Mass, they have what is called "life Night" where they get together with adult volunteers and discuss different topics.
