Today, August 3, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

Bl. Benno of Metz (French, nobleman, priest, hermit in Switzerland, Benedictine monk, bishop, d. 940)
St. Euphronius of Autun (French, bishop, c. 476)
Sts. Gamaliel and Abibas (Israelite ... Talmudic scholar [teacher of St. Paul] and his son [Acts 5] ... converts to Christianity, 1st century)
St. Gaudentia (Roman, virgin, early martyr)
St. Godfrey of Loudon (French, bishop, d. 1255)
Bl. Gregory of Nonantula (Italian, Benedictine abbot, d. 933)
St. Lydia Purpuraria (from Asia Minor [Turkish], seller of purple dye, disciple of St. Paul at Philippi [Acts 16], 1st century)
St. Mancus (English?, bishop)
Sts. Marana and Cyra (Syrian, hermitesses, martyred in 5th century)
St. Nicodemus (Israelite, member of Jewish Sanhedrin, disciple of Jesus whom he helped bury, martyred in 1st century)
St. Peter of Anagni (Italian, Benedictine monk, bishop, papal legate, d. 1105)
St. Senach of Clonard (Irish?, bishop, 6th century)
St. Trea of Ardtree (Irish, disciple of St. Patrick, virgin, hermit, 5th century)
St. Waltheof of Melrose (Scottish, Augustinian prior in England, Cistercian abbot, c. 1160)

If you have anything to share about these holy people, please reply now -- biographical episodes, prayers through their intercession, the fact that one is your patron saint -- whatever moves you. If you are interested in one of these saints and want to find out more about him/her, please ask. Information is sometimes available on the Internet.

All you holy men and women, saints of God, pray for us.
God bless you.
John
