rhythm by Thaddeus L. Bolton

greenspun.com : LUSENET : History & Theory of Psychology : One Thread

I recently read a paper regarding Thaddeus L. Bolton's essay "Rhythm" from the American Journal of Psychology Jan. 1894. I would like to read the Bolton's essay. Is there anyplace on the web I can find it without paying a fee? The copyright has expired. Thank you. Carlos A.

Unfortunately not. Because the paper is nearly 100 pp. long, I cannot post it on the "Classics" site (http://psychclassics.yorku.ca/ ) at this time either. I once asked JSTOR (http://www.jstor.org/) if they intedned to include psychology journals eventually. They told me that they had tried but that the APA was not interested in cooperating with them. Of course, AJP is not an APA journal, but without access to the APA journals, it is not so appealing a project.

Why not obtain a copy of the paper through InterLibrary Loan? Your library can request a copy of the paper from any library that holds the journal, and generally the fees for this service are minimal. Ask your librarian to explain the process to you. I use ILL all the time--it saves a lot of leg-work.

Since Thaddeus L. Bolton's paper "Rhythm" can't be posted with "Classics", can anyone out there with access to it please scan and post it on "The Guttenberg Project" site? I am quite positive the copyright on it has expired and there are no legal repercussions. This pioneer(and obviously)intriguing paper, although oft-quoted by researchers, seems to be unavailable outside of special collections!

Sincerely Carlos a.
