Discipling New Believers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

Hello,

I must admit that God has been doing some wonderful things in our neighborhood. We've been working with several teens who at this stage in their lives could soon join a gang or become very active in the church. Some of them have recently been showing leanings in our direction (praise God!) and have requested guidance in Bible study. I was wondering what resources you'd recommend for a new believer and if you might know something that would directly address these circumstances.

God bless, Scott

Scott;

I am a believer in the OIKOS principle. Touch ministries has some of the best small group/house church stuff out. Though the head guy seems a tad arrogant in his approach, the small group method to me is the best way to disciple. Make sure that you take time to emphasize, having a time to answer their questions about God or the Bible, in addition to your short Bible study. I can give you more info if you need it on Touch ministries. Just let me know if you need it.

Btw, blessings to you on breaking down barriers being used of God to minister to these who hunger and thirst. I hope this is a mighty work for God and your church family.

Blessings to you, but remember to pray for protection as your work with this new ministry area.

At a begging point in discipling. I use the Visualized Bible Study series by Jule Miller. It is a set of five lessons going through the three periods of Bible History. The fourth lesson is on "God's plan for redeeming man" and then no 5 is on "The History of the Lord's Church. When I can, I use the first four to bring folks into the saving knowledge of Christ and follow up with # 5. After this I get each one a copy of Dampiers workbook on Christian Doctrine, and go through it with them. In this regard we also follow with a mentor to work along with them as they begin their spiritual journey.
