Q: I just bought a new cell phone from AT&T Wireless. I authorized a charge of $80.24 on my debit card. They charged me more than 360 times. I started off with $1,200 in my account. Now I'm minus $27,120.64. AT&T said it is refunding my money, but PNC told me I had to pay $270 in overdraw charges. I got 13 pages of account overdrawn notices and charges. My bank account has been frozen for nine days. I have four children. How can they do this?

A: Your problem is an amazing example of computers gone amok, one that can be fixed with a little human attention. I think this points to a much bigger problem for debit card users, but first, the case of the debit debacle.
