How long does fresh milk last?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Dairygoats : One Thread

I am curious as to how long the milk will stay good for both with and without pastuerization. I would rather not pastuerize if possible, but if the milk spoils too quickly......

Thanks.

I don't pasteurize any of my milk...I heat-treat to 140-145 degrees. I've kept milk up to 2 weeks with no problems. I also keep my fridge at about 37*. I'm always checking with my milk customers and they've never had the milk go bad either.

Raw milk that is from healthy does and cooled quickly, handled well, can last a week. If it is not cooled rapidly in a cold water bath it can develop a taste anywhere from immediatly to four days old.
