Also a good rule of thumb with days like today when the market is off 400 points.

Oh the shame! Two years of Latin and I don't know what that means.

Always put an ubi under an ubi?

Try google. It leads you to a really great web site (I bought 4 hats).

Well, Brooks, now I know why I didn't get it. It's fake Latin. I only learned the pure form.

For those puzzled by this scholarly debate:

Semper (Always) ubi (where) sub (under) ubi (where).

You put me in doubt about my classical education for a moment.

Glad to oblige!

You mean it's not a Japanese sash? Hell.

Peter, one of my favorites is from the Red Green Show.

Quando omni flunkus moritati.

Equally good advice!

Brooks, rather than getting into the deep and tangled subject of my reaction to your second Latin? quotation, I'd like to switch the subject back to underwear. Bill Cosby had something very profound to say about Mom's good advice. He said it won't work. When you see an accident is going to happen, like an out-of-control vehicle bearing down on you, "first you say it, and then you do it."

OK, Brooks, about your second quote, "When all else fails, play dead":

That does not have the heroic ring to it that we have seen in the history of America's fighting men, such as John Paul Jones and the men at places like the Alamo and Bastogne.

Peter, it assumes you know something about Red Green. (I don't know if he is still on the air. It was a PBS program out of Canada, sort of northern red neck variety/humor. There was always one segment about innovative ways for the handyman to use duct tape.)

It was based in Possum Lodge. The pledge of the members of Possum Lodge was...Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati.

I hope in that context it means a bit more.

Brooks, I knew nothing about Red Green or the Possum Lodge.

-- Anonymous, July 20, 2002

Peter, you are culturally deprived. How can you not know about the Possum Lodge and its motto? Must dash, tempus done fugited.

>I know nothing about Red Green or the Possum Lodge.

Ditto! I guess a Google search is in order.
