Finally, Lusenet is back online!!!??? The "other" forum is just too awkward to use, much less contribute too, to hard to follow the discussion an' all..... I guess I just plain like this place best, there's no place like home, Dorothy!

Be safe, and have a great time Guido!!!!

Well since I got her out of the way, now we can have some fun!!!

Er, no, I didn't go. I have been riding herd on trying to sell the house, and the day that I needed to leave was the day for closing. Well, closing fell through. The septic did not pass inspection, and I am considering kicking the realtor who told me that no, I didn't need to get it inspected ahead of time (when I could already have had the septic tank replaced and done!!!). Insert swear words here.

While still reeling from that news and the fact that it effectively negates the contract and offer on the house since it was contingent on passing septic inspection, we get a sudden downpour. We need it badly, as the soil is like powder shovel deep, but 2" worth in 15 minutes? I run around slamming windows shut and throwing towels to mop up the water that has come in the windows (it was 95 out, you bet I need some air). I start running up pails of water so that I have it handy for flushing if we lose power, and run to the basement to throw the guinea pigs (luxuriating in the only thing approaching bearable temps in the house) extra hay and such -----and discover that the basement is leaking!! Run for more towels!!!

Once I got that under control (lucky that it was only a 15 minute cloudburst, if it had kept up that way, the pigs would have needed water wings) I look out the window and see -- what? What the heck is that? There is a hole in the ground that wasn't there before. It is a foot across and goes down to a very black depth. I toss in a stone and don't hear it hit. I get out the hose and run water in, and it sounds like it is at least 6 feet deep, maybe more.

The old septic tank at this house, which they supposedly crushed and filled when they put in the new one, apparently wasn't so filled in. The hole has now expanded to nearly 5 feet across and 3 feet deep, if it has stopped caving in down there.

And because it was so hot, I go out to hose down the horses and discover that Gabby is kicked up again. Three bloody ones on two legs, so I've got to be hosing her down and wondering if I need to call the vet. I decide that there's little he can do about it at this stage, so I give her some arnica and put calendula on the gashes. The two that had foundered before are doing better, so apparently they thought I needed to feel Needed and spend more time out there doctoring them. Gabby seems to always be the one kicked up. I don't know if its because her hide is more tender, or because she won't admit that she's not winning. The funny thing is that the mare who always does the kicking screams and carries on like crazy if you take Gabby away from her (to doctor the kicks she gave her). Who needs kids when you've got horses?

So what can we do while Joy is gone?

Julie, I am confused. Why are you selling your house? And is this a really old septic that caved in? Its just a coincidence that it happened just after you had your septic tested? Weird......maybe they tested the wrong one?!

I wonder if Julie fell into the sinkhole? I haven't heard from her so far. I am back home now.

Julie has two houses. Her first house was the one she was living in when she started raising birds and became very allergic to them. It was recommended that she not live there again, even though it had been thoroughly cleaned. So she got a different house. The first house was rented for awhile, and now has been for sale for awhile.

Sounds like you didn't have any fun while I was gone -- your loss! :- P
