The 6914 was built in Dec. 1953 and was used on Southern passenger trains, including the Crescent, that used E8's and other E's. By the early 70's the primary remaining assignment for the E8's was trains 1 & 2, the Southern Crescent. The 6914 was then repainted in an updated green scheme for the Southern Crescent. Amtrak took over the train in Feb. 79 and used the SR E8's for a while. The 6914 was then sold to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for commuter service.

6914 is over at the Tennessee Valley Railroad in Chattanooga, Tennessee, undergoing restoration to its former glory and it was on the cresant.
