How to give a dog a pill : LUSENET : Unk's Troll-free Private Saloon : One Thread

I've heard it all, from the "tilt back the head and plop it in massage the dog's troat to make it go down" theory to the "wrap it in bacon and the dog'll eat it" theory.

Fair enough.

My method has yet to fail me. Pills+Kraft squirt-on cheese product. Just cheese it up and let the hound lick them pills outta yer hand. The world's sickest dog has not yet refused Kraft squirt-on cheese product. Strange but true. Must be the stinky funky cheese odor, heh.

Heya Unkie!

I like the raw hamburger method meself! Works every time!! BTW, what kinda pills to ya need to give em these days? I'm giving Miss Molly vit c every day for her arthritis... Just wondering! And give those puppies a pat from me, willya?

When my Newfoundland had arthritis the leading vet advised me to use asprin, it did seem to work wonders.

As for the pill question, a pill placed in a slice of pizza always did the trick fer my dogs.

We use a pill gun. The theory is that you shoot the sucker against the back of their throat and they swallow. It is easier to give pills to cats. They have a smaller mouth. After a while they understand what you are doing and cooperate.

Dogs are more perfidious and have a much bigger mouth. They only say they are cooperating. Pup can use his tongue to backhand a pill and hide it between his gums and lips. He later hides it. Have to watch him.

Best Wishes,,,,,

I wouldn't call my dog perfidious (I don't usually use words the 'average' person has to look up in a dictionary) ; ) but she too would hold a pill in her mouth and spit it out later. Pretty clever!

You aren't familar with perfidy. I take it you have not been reading the posts about Bush and Cheney that others have been posting here. It is often used in those articles. ;<)))

Best Wishes,,,,,

I understand the definition, I just don't use the word. : )

And you're right about the Bush articles, I usually read the news elsewhere. Some of the posters here sound like a broken record.

Just an additional thought... in most journalism classes you're taught the 'standard' for an article is no higher than a 4th grade reading (comprehension) level. I don't know about you, but we didn't use 'perfidious' till at least the 5th grade. ; )

You be right. I work where they all swim up stream to spawn every spring [journalists that is]. You know; where it started.

They [a couple of thousand of them] come and practice on us. The stories I could tell. ;<))) Of course Brad Pitt dropped out and so did Ten. Williams. Double ;<))))

Best Wishes,,,,

Jimmy Dorsey

To you my heart cries out "Perfidia,"

For I found you, the love of my life,

In somebody else's arms

Your eyes are echoing "Perfidia,"

Forgetful of our promise of love,

You're sharing another's charms

With a sad lament, my dreams

Have faded like a broken melody;

While the gods of love look down and laugh

At what romantic fools we mortals be

And now I know my love was not for you

And so I'll take it back with a sigh,

Perfidious one, good-bye.

Jimmy Dorsey, Lars? Way before MY time. How about Linda Ronstadt? What was the name of the movie?
