Fred Bishop

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

It occurred to me while saying morning prayers that anyone which of course includes myself has no right attempt to deminish the dignity of any member of the forum.

Recently a member attempted to admonish Fred stating over and over I love him. This is not the act(s) of an adult I feel rather the futile attempts of a child to hurt another.

I ask those of us who are adults to not admonish another unless we truly have their well being at heart. Otherwise we are simply being ugly in nature.

"Otherwise we are simply being ugly in nature."

Don't you think that wishing death on another human being (as freddie did with me) is pretty "ugly"?

-- Molson (dennismolson@hotmail.com), July 05, 2002.

Hi Jean,

I agree with you.

God Bless,

-- Kathy (sorry@nomail.com), July 05, 2002.

Molson - perhaps as our maturation process goes forward we learn wheat from chaff. Please remember Fred has stated he suffers from a form of depression which almost a full 1/8th or twelve percent of the population suffers.

I include myself in this for I take neural enhancers due to stress at times in my work with slashers. The world is tough enough without our adding to others burdens.

-- Jean Bouchard (jeanb@cwk.imag.net), July 05, 2002.

Jean,

If you would indulge my curiousity, what "neural enhancers" and what dose of them do you take?

Frank

BTW I have nothing against coping however one has to to do some of the unpleasant jobs out there. The psychiatrists I know tend to either a) smoke b) drink or c) be stone crazy (but smart about it) themselves.

-- Someone (ChimingIn@twocents.cam), July 05, 2002.

Hi, Jean

What kind of tablets do you take? Kathy why am I not suporised to see you first here? :-)

Jean it is a lot kinder to tell one that you love him, than to tell one that you are going to stick a claw hammer in there skull. Or tell someone to take some pills and die!

I love you, Jean.

David

PS; Jean, was it the futile attempt of a child when you told Mr. Chavez that you wanted to slap him silly? :-)

-- David (David@excite.com), July 05, 2002.

Jean,
May I ask why you title a new thread using the name of another man? Aside from the passing reference to a member who attempted to ''admonish Fred stating over and over I love him;'' the subject turned to your judgment of what is proper. Fred was used as a pretext for criticizing whoever tries to correct him. Why would you concentrate on these things rather than the Catholic faith; which is what our forum is about?

-- eugene c. chavez (chavezec@pacbell.net), July 05, 2002.

Jean,

Fred just got the only thread deleted yesterday with his name on it. Now you started another one today! Did you realy think anything positive was going to happen with this?

I am going to start keeping a eye on you Jean! :-0 You should say something in the thread. Don't start another thread with his name!

I love you,

David

-- David (David@excite.com), July 05, 2002.

May I never get as holier then thou in this forum pleeeeeezze!

-- Jean Bouchard (jeanb@cwk.imag.net), July 05, 2002.

Hi David,

I just think that rebutals should be done in a more dignified manner.

Is it not hypocritical of us to profess our love for Jesus, and then kill each other with harsh words because we might disagree with one another?

MHO David.

God Bless,

-- Kathy (sorry@nomail.com), July 05, 2002.

Yeah, Jean, we're going to give poor Fred a "Charlie Brown" complex!

Gail

-- Gail (Rothfarms@socket.net), July 05, 2002.

This thread really should be removed.

-- Kathy (sorry@nomail.com), July 05, 2002.

"Is it not hypocritical of us to profess our love for Jesus, than kill each other..." Kathy

Yes, abortion is MURDER Every TIME. Make NO mistake about it!

David,

So how are you naughty boy ? LOL :-)

Peace & Prayers

-- Xavier (xavier_david24@yahoo.com), July 06, 2002.

Hi, Xavier

I am peachy. :-) Thanks for asking. How are you my good man? I am still trying to figure out how to lick my elbow.

God bless you

David

-- David (David@excite.com), July 06, 2002.

Unless you have a tongue like Gene Simmons.......I think that task of licking your elbow is near impossile!!

-- Kathy (sorry@nomail.com), July 06, 2002.

Kathy,

I am going to be able to do it!! I will keep trying until I make it!! Xavier knows. :-)

David

-- David (David@excite.com), July 06, 2002.

Hello, Xavier. How are you my good man? Guess what? My photocopier broke. I'm in the other 77 percent. ;-) God bless you. David

-- David (David@excite.com), July 07, 2002.

Hey David,

I am fine by your prayers. Thanks for that. How is your family ? Hope you succeed in licking your elbow :-) Have not heard for a long time about "the legend". Any news how is HE ? Hope the pig is not enjoying him:-). What do you say Golem ? Your inputs Mr. Bouchard.

I am very glad that you and MaryLu have become chums :-) Hope one day the legend will be the same.

Peace & Blessings. Xavier

PS : I will pray for your photocopier to be healed. If God willing you will buy a new one :-)

-- Xavier (xavier_david24@yahoo.com), July 08, 2002.

David,

Can you recommend some Irish music played on pipes (bagpipe). If not then I will ask the legend.

Peace & Prayers

PS : Fred my prayers for you. How are you and how is your family. We all miss you. Hope David you agree with me :-)

-- Xavier (xavier_david24@yahoo.com), July 08, 2002.

Dear Fred,

I do hope you are well and just taking a little breather from the Forum. We miss you and hope you come back. It is just not the same without you.

Give my love to Carolyn. Maybe the two of you are riding and enjoying the summer days...mornings and evenings, that is...afternoons are a little bruttle.

MaryLu :)

-- MaryLu (mlc327@juno.com), July 08, 2002.

"Revival in Belfast" by Robin Mark is a great IRISH worship CD, complete with bagpipes (IT's awesome). Here's where you can order.

http://www.worshipmusic.com/14062.html

You can even hear soundclips of the songs!

Hi Fred,

If your out there somewhere hanging in the backround, I thought you might be interested in knowing that the St. Francis of Assisi (sp?) in Lawrence closed it's doors. They held their last mass this past Sunday. It will be converted into a boys middle school.

I hope you and Carolyn are doing well. Miss you guys here in the forum, hope to see you back soon.

God Bless,

-- Kathy (sorry@nomail.com), July 08, 2002.

Hello, Xavier

My Mom is in Ireland now. That is so awsome to me. Last year on July fifth she was operated on with cancer and had a tumor the size of a softfball removed from her. My Mom weighs 110 after a Thanksgiving dinner.

Mother Seton, and Padre Pio helped bring some of God's grace for me. Please read about St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Our Lord loves her Xavier, and she will go to bat for her friends! (I promise).

I will keep praying for you Xavier. Please pray for my family.

God bless you, Xavier.

David

Your brother in Christ

David

Ps; I did follow everything, Xavier. :-) I am not suprised with you. I know you are for real.

If you don't mind be asking, are you from America? If I am being to nosy than please forgive me. Just ignore me, and shame on me! :-)

-- David (David@excite.com), July 08, 2002.

I would like to repeat MaryLu's hope that youre still around Fred. It's just not the same, hope to hear from you soon! Courtenay

-- kiwi (csisherwood@hotmail.com), July 09, 2002.

David,

What do you feel where am I from ? Do some guess work !!!

Peace & Prayers

-- Xavier (xavier_david24@yahoo.com), July 09, 2002.

Hi Carolyn,

I find it unusual that Fred would stay away from the forum this long. I do hope that he is just taking a breather from the forum and that all is well with him.

Thinking of both of you,

-- Kathy (sorry@nomail.com), July 09, 2002.

Hello, Xavier

You answered my question by asking one! :-) Are you from America? I have some thoughts about it, but than again who know? Not I, young man.

May the Lord bless you, and keep your family safe, and healthy.

David

-- David (David@excite.com), July 09, 2002.

Hi David,

Where are you from?

-- Kathy (sorry@nomail.com), July 09, 2002.

Gail,

I cherished that uilleann pipes music - Revival In Belfast. I have a deep love for Irish traditions and melody.

Peace & Prayers

-- Xavier (xavier_david24@yahoo.com), July 10, 2002.

Xavier, are you from Haiti? (I'm guessing, since David did not guess when you invited him to do so.)
JFG

-- (jfgecik@hotmail.com), July 10, 2002.

John,

Your guessing is wrong !!! Keep on guessing.

Peace & Prayers

-- Xavier (xavier_david24@yahoo.com), July 10, 2002.

John,

May I know the reason - Haiti? Just a bit inquisitive.

Peace & Prayers

-- Xavier (xavier_david24@yahoo.com), July 11, 2002.

Xavier,

Are you from Italy? I thought you wrote something like, "here in Italy..."

Enjoy,

Mateo

-- (MattElFeo@netscape.net), July 11, 2002.

Xavier: I'm so glad you liked that Revival in Belfast. God's anointing is REALLY on that CD -- May God heal Ireland! I have a deep burden for Ireland too! Get that CD -- you won't regret it!

Love,

Gail

P.S. Would someone tell me what IMHO means?

-- Gail (rothfarms@socket.net), July 11, 2002.

IMHO - in my humble (sometimes honest) opinion

-- - (-@-.-), July 11, 2002.

Xavier, the reason I guessed "Haiti" is that many people there have saints' names as their surnames. I realize that "Xavier David" may not be your full name, but I see it every day in your e-mail address.

Today, my guess will be "Nederland." Is that it?

Has anyone noticed that Gene has also been scarce recently. Yet when Fred posts Gene almost always responds. This has me curious...

Could they be... No surely not...One in the same person!

Ok rather unlikely, but notice the strenuous lengths Gene makes to distance himself from being compared to Fred. Still a long shot but Im bored-as you might have guessed Ive been procrastinating today- big time.

Anyway Im looking forward to Mass(havent been in a while) enjoy your weekend folks and God Bless.

-- kiwi (csisherwood@hotmail.com), July 12, 2002.

Kiwi,

Have you ever been a detective? :-)

Peace & Blessings

-- Xavier (xavier_david24@yahoo.com), July 12, 2002.

No and I dont really think Gene is Fred. Gene you seem a bit down at the moment- hope youre not offended with my concern but Im praying for you.

In Matthew 18:35, Jesus tells us we must forgive our brother or sister from our heart. Earlier in Matthew's Gospel, Jesus speaks again about forgiveness. "Peter came and said to Jesus, "Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times? 'Jesus said to him, "Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.'" ~Matthew 18:21-22

SE R E N I T Y P R A Y E R God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference

-- kiwi (csisherwood@hotmail.com), July 12, 2002.

My old computer is having problems. That's why I've been missing on and off. Just coming closer to normal since yesterday; and the quality of the last few new threads is so poor (I beg everybody's pardon for saying) that it seems better to stay out. One or two new ones are so inflammatory they deserve to be deleted right away. If I post in them, it'll prolong their disgusting shelf-life.

The last serious thread was about the psychology of homosexuals in the Church, a subject worth considering in some depth. But unfortunately it became a pissing contest between me and a fellow Catholic. Not very tidy, OK?

It would be nice to talk about the Catholic faith and our Church on some elevated plane. Without pitter-patter and catechism paste jobs. And it would sure help if there were some way of deleting the --sss..ss.ss..-- BS and Molsons on first contact. ''OUT, damned spot!'' --They're making a mess out of our forum. About Fred??? Maybe he's developed carpal tunnel syndrome from posting seventy-seven times a day? Nah, he'll be back.

-- eugenec. chavez (chavezec@pacbell.net), July 12, 2002.

Hi Kathy

I'm sorry I missed your post. I live in MD. Have a great weekend too.

David

-- David (David@excite.com), July 12, 2002.

Hey David.......we're just about neighbors!! Who knew!

Have an enjoyable weekend,

-- Kathy (sorry@nomail.com), July 12, 2002.

Hi Kathy

I knew we were just about neighbors. ;-)

-- David (David@excite.com), July 12, 2002.

Gene this is a public forum not your private ivory tower.OK I got a bit excited when I discovered HTML and pictures, but many of the other threads are fascinating to me. We may not all be at your amazing intellectual level so do us all a favour and stop your bleating like a spoilt brat who hasnt got his way.

As you have mentioned many threads you add input to denegraite into a slinging match- funny that isnt it? Doesnt seem to matter who you discuss something with- ever thought you may be the problem?

My real gripe with your approach is while you moan and groan about the standard of threads YOU NEVER START ANYTHING INTERESTING YOURSELF.

Could you not be a bitter boring old fart who desperatly needs love but doesnt know how to recieve love? This is an honest question, and a fair one given your track record. I dont know Ive never met you.

If you really want that elevated plane of discussion get pro-active man and post the questions that tickle your exclusive fancy. Or is it just more fun knocking others?

Dont stress yourself with the level of discourse amongst your fellow Catholics, set the standard and maybe we will follow.

With love and blessings(though sometimes I wonder why!)

-- kiwi (csisherwood@hotmail.com), July 12, 2002.

Gene,

I will do some pitter pattering. Did you ever get that old car out and wash it? :-)

Is it a old t bird?

-- David (David@excite.com), July 12, 2002.

Hi, Kiwi;
You start the interesting threads, and I'll fart right back at you. I wish you would remember, only you can prevent laughter !

Get off the grass.

-- eugenec. chavez (chavezec@pacbell.net), July 12, 2002.

Yes, David; --My T-Bird was washed and shiny for a few days. It soon rained. Unseasonably.

Have Holy Hour at Saint Basil the Great's this evening. Every Friday; so it's well-said, TGIF.

My wife invited some friends Saturday afternoon for a Bar B-Q; I wish you could come. In the morning I'm driving to a seafood outlet for a case of fresh oysters. I'll let you all know if I find a pearl.

-- eugenec. chavez (chavezec@pacbell.net), July 12, 2002.

Youll fart right back at me? please Lord no!

-- kiwi (csisherwood@hotmail.com), July 12, 2002.

Gene,

Thanks for that post! I am embarrased to say, that I am not familiar with St. Basil the great. I will look up this "great' Saint tonight before I "hit the sack".

Thanks, again Gene. Please pray for my family in front of the Blessed Sacrament? And if you don't mind, please say a prayer for Xavier, and Mod.?

I will pray for you and your family. (And I do pray for Bertha every day)

Your brother in Christ

David

Blessed be God, a million, million, million times.

-- David (David@excite.com), July 12, 2002.

You're supposed to be in bed, Kiwi. Isn't it around 3AM in Never Never?

You calls me an old fart. As Marc Antony said to Cleopatra, I'm not prone to argue with you.

Before you fall off to sleep, I'll tell you, I am not a bitter old man. I'm capable of love and of receiving love. The best proof of Christian love is for us to love those who do not love us. Which I do. In fact, I loved the pretty photos. I never got to see the bad one since my puter is giving me problems. It had been deleted, I guess.

My lament was over the smarmy threads. Though as you say, it's open forum, I like to expect interesting people in here. We could use some stimulating contributions right now.

You may not think so, but my message from here to you at the other side of the world is a composition. I won't bother to mail less than my best.

The discussions of mine about which you disapprove (my track record) all gave of my best. In some I had opponents. I'm warm when warm is called for; tender toward the good people. Toward the least of Jesus' brethren I'm a friend and a gentleman, even when they act superior. As Saint Thomas More said to his judges, ''Not very long from now, we'll all make merry together as if this had never happened. In heaven with our King and Saviour.'' I feel that way about you and Fred Bishop and a few others with whom I've tangled here.

-- eugenec. chavez (chavezec@pacbell.net), July 12, 2002.

HI Gene, no its 13.30 Saturday local time, hmm its hard to be annoyed with you when you post so diplomatically.

Arguments can be good if as Jean says "we truly have their well being at heart", and youve heard enough of my juvenile rantings to take them with a grain of salt. Water off a ducks back... Anyway Im still unsure why one who has so much to offer others as yourself is fearful of giving less than your best, why not just throw something out there and see where it goes? Guess some people have old fashioned ideas like "standards"!

God Bless Courtenay

-- kiwi (csisherwood@hotmail.com), July 12, 2002.

Dear David Sullivan,
Thanks again. I appreciate your praying for my Sis; even if she dies very quickly, you have earned my lasting gratititude. (God may fool us, and she may not die so right away.)

I'll make it a point to offer up prayer for you, your family and Xavier, as well as the good Moderater. For this whole forum of Catholics, near-Catholics and NON-Catholics. We are all the same to God Almighty.

If only we had some way to show that all churches don't mean the same. They may be good; but only one is Christ's. Only one is the Church.

-- eugenec. chavez (chavezec@pacbell.net), July 13, 2002.

St Basil the great, "The fearless Champion of Orthodox Faith" 329-379 A.D.

For some reason St Basil seems to be held in especially high regard by those who use the name Orthodox from what Ive read (whatever that means?). Perhaps that has something to do with his well known feelings of contempt for human praise.

Anyway he was a man who loved poverty, hard labour and studying scripture, he sounds like a bit of a hermit as he shunned the outside world. He founded many monastries and wrote the rules for monastics. Holiness must have been in the genes as his whole extended family - grandmother, parents, brothers and sister were all Saints!

He was described as cheerful by St Gregory but died so poor he could not afford a tombstone(even thogh he was a Bishop) The Church chose to honor him as one of the great "Three Hierarchs," together with St. John Chrysostom and St. Gregory the Theologian (their feast is celebrated on January 30).

I think I read he is patron Saint of hospital administrators(?!) but Im not sure. Thought Id save people the time if they were interested in him. Oh he was Greek, guess thats why the "Orthodox" reference kept coming up.

-- kiwi (csisherwood@hotmail.com), July 13, 2002.

Kiwi, Thanks for that picture and information on St. Basil the great.

Gene, Thanks for your prayers.
