To answer your queries:

1. A pirated CD can often contain a movie that hasn't even been officially released internationally yet, let alone in US cinemas. Also, a pirated CD can also be lifted from real VCD/DVD sources and then sold on the street at low prices by a table vendor. This is a problematic occurence in developing (and to a lesser extent, poorer) Asian countries such as China, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Taiwan.

3. Because many people can't afford the actual VCD/DVD and/or admission price of the theatre. In other cases, some can't wait to watch the movie.
