Ok, I know this sound dumb but I don't have a clue. The dealer told me my bike was a 2002. It doesn't have the 02 stickers showing it has the new motor. The side stand doesn't stay down as the 2002 should. My owners manual doesn't tell me how to get the year out of the VIN number. My letter from MV doesn't have the vehicle date. I'm lost. HELP!! My vin number is ZCGF400AAYV001148 and my national type approval number is MVAM-2000. Thanks in advance for the help.

the Y in the number says it is a 2000 manufactured model, could be 2001 spec but definitley not 2002!

In any case I bought it in december 2000, and I defintely wanted a 2001. Together with my dealer we went through all the modifications since the 2000 model. My dealer himself had a 2000 model and so we could easily compare.

It is good possible that your (late) 2000 build bike (the Y in the VIN) is 2001 spec, in this case like cars you can buy the new model at the end of the year. for sure the 401 does not mean 2001 as there are 2000 spec bikes with 401 in the VIN number.
