Apex DVD player not playing VCD???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have an Apex 660 DVD player and have recorded a VCD using Nero, but when I attempt to play it. I get a rolling screen, but when it attempts to set up tracks it appears to be reading the video correctly, but still will not play it.

Is the VCD in NTSC or pal? Set the apex dvd to auto. It worked for my woith a PAL formated VCD.

Please do NOT set your Apex to Auto as was suggested! This is wrong. This only works if your TV is multi-format and if you live in North America, the odds are that you don't have such a TV. Set your Apex TV output to NTSC if you live in the USA or Canada, PAL if you live in Europe, figure it out yourself if you live elsewhere. Setting the output to PAL or NTSC forces everything, regardless of of format, to display in that output format, which is what you want. If you hacked your DVD player's firmware, sometimes it does exactly what you are seeing. All you can do in those cases is turn off the machine and power it back on again. Most likely though the rolling screen is a PAL/NTSC mismtach and forcing your TV output on the Apex to the correct value should fix it.
