VCDEasy from www.doom9.org but you have to have fair knowledge about White Book specs, etc. Not for the downright newbie in this biz. But oh, free.

Use Nero 5.0

You guys are forgetting the greatest vcd authoring software ever: http://www.gnu.org/software/vcdimager/

I'm not sure if it runs in Windows though, so you might have to upgrade to Linux.

A very good (possibly the best program for vcd burning) is Nero express. www.nero.com

The VCDEasy is the best, free and fairly simple authoring tool for burning video to VCDs. As for burning DVD to DVD+R or the more commonly accepted format for set top players DVD-R you should "buy it before it's gone" DVD X Copy. This program will make an exact duplicate of any DVD and it will span disc if necessary! It is $99, but you can split the cost up with a few friends or as I did, just buy the dame thing and have your own copy forever. Not related or affiliated....blah, blah, blah. Nero works ok for VCDs, but it is not my first choice. You can go to a geek PC warehouse (not Bestbuy, etc) and get the white box version of software for dirt cheap. I bought Nero 5.5 for $8.95!!! It is a full version and legal.

Well there are your little gem PC tips from KIMO, Enjoy the burn!

i bought a samsung CD-RW drive and it came with nero 5 bundled. i tried to burn an AVI onto a CD-R as a VCD. my problem is that it wont burn, when it gets to about 15 percent it slows down DRASTICALLY, i let one burn last night and when i woke up in the morning it was only 25 percent done. do i need to convert the AVI to some other format? someone please share your knowledge. =( -thanks

Thats the thing dude, nero sucks, and its supposedly the best my CD burner came with nero and its freez's alot , the 5.5 version is better, i cant even make a god damn VCD with the new nero , i came accross this page cause im looking for new software, i need software that converts the videos fast, cause with everything it just takes hours.

Sounds like most of you should go to a site called DVDRhelp.com. Anything and everything you could possibly need to know is there.I was lucky enough to find it when I started authoring my own vcd/dvds. http://www.dvdrhelp.com

I am also looking for a free VCD burner. I can only find limited free trial programs. I am used to just copying a video file to the harddrive and then use a cheesy program like RealOnePlayer to burn the file onto a blank CD, but some people apparently don't have a lousy CDROM to play VCDs.

Has anyone tried this YASASOFT program?

-- A Chahrasti (holyabdul@yahoo.com), February 22, 2004.

Yah, Ive tried it. Its nice but it sucks becuase it only burns 300 Megabytes of Video so it pretty useless if your using the trial. But if you buy it its good!!:) did I mention the folks at the company barely know english, i think there Japenese. If you have more questions post it or Email Me. I Respond withing 30 Minutes :) good luck

-- Elliott (qman234@internet4free.biz), February 24, 2004.

Hmmm, only 300 Megs won't be enough, thanks.

What about DeepBurner? Someone recommended it to me and said it was "free."

-- A. C. (holyabdul@yahoo.com), February 25, 2004.

I've been using DeepBurner for my DVD-RAM disks... I don't think it burns VCDs, just data and ISO images... still looking for a decent VCD burning program.

-- Matt (matt@rogers.com), March 08, 2004.

Whoever suggesed the Ha! CD Burner Manager, thank you. It worked perfectly. I haven't tried the other features, but I just burned a 2- hour movie to VCD in 5 minutes... and it worked perfectly in my DVD player. It's worth a try.

I have some episodes downloaded, but they are .AVIs and you know of any program that I can use to burn them to a VCD so I can watch it in my DVD player?

Thanks, Scrye

Dude, I'm a totall newbie at this whole thing. I got some AVI movies and a ProScan PS8680Z DVD player. I need help on which programs I should use to convert AVI into VCD and then I need help on choosing a program (besides Nero) that will burn the VCD's for me. Please help...

-- Avnish (avnish@piserv.com), March 16, 2004.

To convert AVI to MPEG file: TMPGEnc (http://www.tmpgenc.net/) To burn MPEG files to a VCD: Burn VCD (http://web.hku.hk/~kangsg/freeware/).

They are both freewares.

I've just sat here reading through the whole page...... Wow!

-- billy (billalbutt@hotmail.aom), March 20, 2004.

Shugang, I just downloaded your Burn VCD and tried to burn a VCD. I got the following error msgs:

1-Cannot set write parameters mode page 2-Cannot setup write parameters for session-at-once mode 3-Please try to use generic mmc raw driver

What do I have to do to remedy the error?

thank you

Is there a site where I can get Help files on the Ha! Burner. Keep getting error messages.

-- AC (holyabdul@yahoo.com), March 21, 2004.

i downloaded some bit torrent files the other day and i want to burn them to a cd-r but every time i go to copy it it sya there was an error so i need help on how to burn my movies onto a cd-r.

-- (johnnyblaze@microsoft.com), March 28, 2004.

I haven't read through the whole thread but if anyone is looking for VCD burning software, I recommend NTI CD & DVD Maker

http://www.ntius.com/default.asp

The only catch is your video will have to be compliant with the VCD standards for it to accept the files. It checks the files for you and it will not attempt to burn your VCD until all files are compliant.

Last night I compressed the matrix revolutions I couls only copy part 1 of 2 (It could not fit on one cdr) but my dad's PC locked up on me the cd worked on my DVD player but the software can't thak files from a hard disc so I might try HA! to copy the rest of the movie. That has never happened to me before! I compressed and burned Duplex and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with no problem!
