Psychological Disorder

greenspun.com : LUSENET : History & Theory of Psychology : One Thread

I heard of a psychological disorder in which one does not progress mentally beyond the age of a child, even though chronologically, he may be well into his 40's. I was wondering if anyone knew what this disorder could be called, as I would like to research it further. Thanks.

This would be a standard example of mental retardation or arrested development. THere are many causes and types of developmental delay. The best thing to do is to consult a developmental psychology textbook, or a textbook on disorders of childhood. There will also be examples in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
