Is the quality of an SVCD the same as DVD? Is it much better than VCD?

Generally speaking, the video quality of a SVCD is better than VCD's, but worse than DVD's.

The video rates are shown as following:

VCD: 1.15Kbps SVCD: 2~3Kbps DVD: 1~9.8Kbps

Actually, it's not worse than DVD, just slightly lower. DVD can hold an entire 2 hour film on one disc whereas for SVCD (a Chinese developed standard) can only hold 35-40 minutes and you'll need 3 discs.

I use Win TZV PVR 250 to make SVCD's and the SVCD are much better quality than VCD. A 700mb CDR only holds 40 mins of SVCD so an average 2 hr movies take 3 700 mb cdr's.

Why are Super VCds a rarity? The only list I could find was at http://www.vcdgallery.com It's a pretty limited list at that too. I bought a couple and was satissfied. i asked if they had more to choose from but the answer was no.

Probally because of the quality difference, and ammount of data that can be held on a svcd vs. a dvd :)
