I don't have an answer to this one, and it strikes me as unlikely that anyone could come up with a definitive answer. However, what you would need to do (in the first instance) is some research as to which brands of gin and whisky were available in the first half of the nineteenth century.

Were these brands sold nationally or, my best guess, did each state/city have its own local brands? Someone must have done some research on the history of drinks and branding in America, especially since bourbon was a really important commercial product in the 1800s.

If you want to try your hand at doing some research of your own, why not look at the websites of famous brands (Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, etc) and see when they were founded and where. This should give you a lead.

But I would be very surprised (if not shocked) if there is any documentary evidence revealing Poe's own personal favorites. After all, who would write this down?

The taste of an alcoholic is probably not much of a recommendation. Poe had some lines on drinking beer. beggars can't be choosers. The usual fare freely available at the taverns was prorably pretty cheap. Somewhere, some time long, long ago I saw it mentioned that Poe's refined taste ran to "Cote De Rhone" a strong dry 12% red French wine(it would be red, wouldn't it?). On occasion when I had some myself I thought: that would do the trick.

What the deuce! Amontillado of course!!!!!!! Only kiddin', I dunno about Amontillado, he may or mayn't have liked it, but he certainly hankered after some good old vintages, which he couldn't afford of course... And he longed for Gin, not whiskey (though I prefer whiskey myself).
