An equipment problem caused SBC Ameritech Ohio customers to lose some of their service Tuesday for about two hours.

The problem affected people in Canal Fulton and surrounding communities, according to Greg Connel, a spokesman for SBC Ameritech Ohio.

``We apologize for any inconvenience,'' Connel said Tuesday evening after service had been restored.

Some communities, including Canal Fulton, reported trouble receiving 911 calls, but Connel said the service went uninterrupted. 911 calls were immediately rerouted, he said.

The problem, which began around 5 p.m., affected both phone and Internet service, Connel said.

Connel could not provide details about the equipment problem.
