I am an ordained Elder(not pastor) in the A.M.E. Church. I am from Louisiana and would like to find some of the Houston/Sugar Land area churches.

As an ordained Elder, would you consider planting a church in the Sugarland area?

My apologies for the late response. I had not checked this board in a few weeks.

The Houston/Sugarland area is served by the Teas Annual Conference. There are 50 active charges in the conference, which spans from Centerville in the North, to Beaumont/Port Arthur in the East, to Galveston/Angleton in the South, to Rosenberg in the West.

In addition to Wesley Chapel, the historical lead church of the conference, churches close to Sugarland include Visions AME , Rev. Carol Echols, Pastor, Evangelist Chapel in the "Sunnyside" area south of 610, Clear Lake AME in the Clear Lake area, and South Wesley, not far from Hobby Airport, off MLK Blvd.

The Texas Conference is divided into two Presiding Elder Districts. Payne Cathedral of Faith includes in its listing information on the Houston District. Reedy Chapel, the "Mother Church of Texas", includes in its web site information on the South Houston District , whose specific page is provided here for convenience as well.

Our Annual Conference is scheduled for October 1-5. It will be hosted by Payne Cathedral of Faith, and the site will be the Airport Sheraton by Bush Intercontental Airport, to the north of the city. There Bishop McKinley Young (109), will be presiding.

Please post a reply if you need further information.

God Bless you Elder Holland,

We do not have an A.M.E. Church located in Sugarland, but we do have A.M.E. Churches located all over the Houston area. Wesley Chapel in Houston is the first A.M.E. Church of Texas and is located near downtown Houston, where Rev. E.E. Coates is pastor. You can also go on the 10th District website and go under Houston and South Houston District to locate other A.M.E. Churches in the Houston area.

We would love to have you visit with us at Wesley. We have two services each Sunday, one at 8:00 a.m. and one at 11:00 a.m. If you need transportation , please call the church at 713-659-5072 or 713- 659-6682, or you may call me, Lenda Fowler, at 832-483-9305 or 281- 484-3625. If we can be of further service, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Lenda Fowler
