Paging OG or anyone that knows about drugs and finding them cheap!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News - Homefront Preparations : One Thread

All,

On TB2K, it appears that one of Rizzo_Girl's daughters has developed a very rare form of MS. She was put into the hospital last week after she lost feeling up her legs. Currently she cannot see out of one of her eyes.

The doc said her monthly drug costs would be 1800.00 bucks. I'm trying to find resources for vastly reduced drugs for people without insurance. Please help, as I know it takes a while to get the ball rolling. The outlook right now is the girl has less than a year to live. She's about 21 and has two small children, youngest being but 4 months old.

Thanks Bunches!

I don't know where she lives, but what about her local social agencies and her church? The last time I was at church, they had a special collection to pay for someone's cancer meds and raised 5K.

Do a check on the net for free prescriptions. There are programs out there that provide low cost/free medications. Have them ask the hospital for some info on it also. I know it's there, I used to have it bookmarked. I was so sorry to hear the diagnosis, my brother has MS also. Not a great disease.

Yes, there are various programs run by the drug companies themselves, I believe, or at least sponsored by them. Might be an idea to find out which drug company produces the needed medication and contact them to see which cities or states offer a low-cost or free program. The only other alternative I know of is Mexico and, at that kind of cost, it might be worth a trip down there to buy some. But you still have to have a US doctor's prescription to show at the border coming back, otherwise the drugs can be confiscated.

Here is what you may be looking for apoc:

http://www.phrma.org/searchcures/dpdpap/

It has a PDF document at the bottom of the main page that you can print, about 20 pages if memory serves me (and it doesn't always!). It lists the manufacturers and the specific drugs the companies are willing to subsidize. The doc must do the paperwork and attest to the patients financial constraints. Additionally her doc can talk to the pharmaceutical sales reps who can make a plea to their company, if the drug is not on the list. I hope this helps her.

I'll ask Carlos if he knows of anything else (unless OG already has). Do you have the names of the drugs she will need?

I'll see what else I can find, but I do believe this is the most comprehensive up-to-date list. My prayers and and positive thoughts will be her.

Sorry all, haven't been around in a while and know I owe some of you e's. They're coming, really!
