Reasonable offer on M6?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I was at a Leica Day today advertised on Leica's website as a clean and check but alas only a demo day. No clean , no check. I did have the opportunity to handle an M7. Very nice but not for me right now. I don't think the dealer had much interest in me once I said I was not looking for an M7. Nevertheless, I really liked the M6ttl. I have a M6 classic and never handled the M6ttl and I much preferred the extra LED and the larger shutter dial. I know I could probably sell it for more privately but what do you think is a reasonable offer from a dealer for my mint M6(no signs of wear, bottom plastic guard in place) with all boxes and papers in trade for a new M6ttl (with the appropriate Leica day discounts). Thanks so much.

Most dealers will offer 60% of what they will sell it for so check out comparable M6 Classic prices out there. This will give you an idea. Example my Ex++ or Mint- would sell for @$1200-$1250 at a dealer so I'd get @$750 in trade.

Another option is leave it on consignment. Rich at PhotoVillage gets 10% on consignment items.

Daniel, Keep the M6 classic. Unless you need the TTL feature badly, the M6 TTL will not take better pictures. Use the money you save from not "taking a bath" to buy another lens. Glass is where it's at!

Be aware though the ttl metering is more sensitive than the classic. Pesonally I tried both. I prefer the ttl or M7.
