Mis-alignement of the range finder on CL

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Gents.

I have this CL for a month now, love it to bits but a friend had found out that the range finder was Vertically mis-aligned.

And he is right! It does not affect much the focus, the pix are pretty much all right.

Question: is the correction a difficult task on a CL? Would it be expensive? Any Ressources on this subject with the CL? (I know there is for the M3 thanks to this forum).

Regards. Xavier.

Hi, I had a Minolta CLE, a Leica CL copy. I calibrate the vertical and horizontal alignment myself. If your Leica CL had a black plastic cap on top, pop it out with a cutter knife. Looking vertically into the hole, you should see the head of 2 small screws. Insert your small screwdriver in and tune them, this 2 screws are your vertical and horizontal agjustment. Tune them according to your infinity setting. I done all this on my Minolta CLE, if you Leica CL has the 2 screws in that hole, then it should be the same. Hope it helps.

Yes under the access hole in the top plate there is the rangefinder adjustment. The plastic plug can be difficult to remove and it is also easy to scratch the top plate if you are not careful. Your Leica distributor will be able to supply a new plastic plug if you need one.

Once the plug is off you will see a set screw in the middle of an eccentric nut. The set screw is for the vertical alignment and the eccentric nut is for the horizontal alignment. Use tools that fit and do not press down on them. Apply turning force only.
