Experience with Giottos ball heads?

Does anyone have experience with the Giottos MH-1003 or MH-1002 ball heads with Leic M's? Is the smaller MH-1003 sufficient for the M with a 90 cron or smaller lenses? Thanks, Bill

A couple of years ago I traded an Arca Swiss B1 for a Gitzo Reporter w/ Giottos MH-1002. I find it to be a great combo with my IIIg with lenses upto the 90 Elmar. I have read some user reports complaining of creep, but they usually go on to state that their using it with an SLR plus 80-200 or some such rig. Size-wise it is no Arca Swiss. It's about 1/3 the size and weight so it's only logical to conclude it will handle about 1/3 the load. but IMO it is very well machined and a great, compact head for any rangefinder.

I really like the Manfrotto 3413QR Pro ball head for both my M and R systems. It has a nice quick release system and it is a lot of ball head for the money. g

How can you guys even *think* of mounting a Leica on anything but a Leica ballhead? Shame, shame, shame. :>)

a iiig on an arca swiss b1!!!! i use a b1 for my deardorff 8x10. the qwik release plate must have overhung the body on both sides by a good half inch. talk about overkill.

Roger, I bought the Arca Swiss when I had an SLR with upto 300mm. It was a great ballhead, but was even overkill for the 300. Luckily, when I traded it for the Gitzo/Giottos, the fellow through in a Domke 803 as well.
