Wrong question. Not intentionally biographical. However you can draw similarities, intentional or not to... Poe's own irregular heartbeat(possibly from drinking). The obsession and rage that consumes the mind with madness may also come from alcoholic temperament. Suppressed violence and wish to get rid of "enemies" symbolically. Poe's stress of the eye as a focus of the soul. Poe's need to show cleverness often backfired to his own detriment. Poe's own incredible inventiveness but accompanying trouble with social success. Loneliness and fear was something he understood deeply. Poe's cleverness and the limits of problem solving, even by a quickened, determined mind. The killer in this story betrays himself. Often the same could be said of Poe.
