New lower price for Gitzo CF Tripods

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Not a question, just a little heads up. This came as a pleasant surprise to me. I've been wanting a Gitzo 1227 Carbon Fiber Tripod but was too stingy to spend the $626 that B&H & Adorama wanted for one. They have both lowered their price to $440. As I get older my hands are getting less steady and I am trying to use a tripod more. These CF tripods are great; light weight, steady and warm to the hands on a cold morning. With a medium ball head they are ideal. People in the US were actually ordering them from Robert White in England because they were priced so much higher here. Good luck.

And they are so much cheaper in France...

I'd go for the 1228. It's 4 section, but I'll bet anyone $1M to show me a difference in clarity of photos between a 3-section and a 4- section. Unless, of course, you don't mind a longer, more simple tripod, and don't need the 1228's compactness. Excellent tripods.

The price of the 1227 in US$ (as of rate today)from Robert White is 338.28. Even adding $50 for shipping it's still over $50 less than B&H and they charge for shipping on top of the $440 too.

Both are superb! And will easily handle 21/4 cameras as well! I have the origianl mountaineer (1227, I think) and it is one of the best photographic investments I have ever made.

I love my Gitzo 1227 CF tripod and depend on it when travelling with my R8s. Great news about the price fall!!

I still think the cf tripods are way to expensive and after hearing from an expedition to Iceland that their cf tripods were blown over by the wind while the aluminium tripods kept standing I have decided to keep my aluminium manfrotto's (bogen)
