EOS 300 and 540EZ compatability

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Thinking of buying a second hand 540EZ flashgun for my EOS300 but tried it out and flash sync is still 1/90s (same as built in flash) is there anyway I can get flash sync upto 1/2000s or does the 540EZ on work properly with the EOS300. (Main reason for purchase is I am going to buy an EOS 3 in September) Thanks Brian

go for EX series flash guns (220EX, 420EX and 550EX). they have FP mode which allows you to go beyond the camera's X-sync. i have 380EX, which is now out of production. it has been replaced by 420EX. with 380EX one can go upto 1/4000sec shutter speed in FP mode.

If you're going to buy the EOS 3 then you have only one choice - 550EX. It is the only one which is fully compatible with the EOS 3. Both the 300 and the 3 has E-TTL and only EX guns support it. For the 300 the 420EX is more than enough but for the 3, only the 550EX will do.

Actually, the 420EX is also fully compatible with the EOS 3 as well. It has a little less output and no manual capability but it is fully compatible.
