Alternate forum, just in case...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Troll-free Private Saloon : One Thread

Just in case this place poops out, the Hostboard forum is still alive. But just barely, heh.

Anyhoo, you may wish to save this link to the other "Wild West".

Actually, if this Greenspun place does go T.U. I would miss y'all terribly. All of you, even Dumbya troll.

"even Dumbya troll"

Snif, Cherri, my name is Cherri...

-- Cherri (whatever@who.cares), June 05, 2002.

Cherri,

You're not a troll, you just don't like Bush. :)

-- Stephen (smpoole7@bellsouth.net), June 05, 2002.

Pardon my ignorance but what is the reason for a B/U forum? Is the Lusenet server being de-activated?

-- So (cr@t.es), June 05, 2002.

Well according to the admin page, there are changes being made, ans since Phill has finished college, and times are tight? or through lack of interest from lowerclassmen (persons), or sumthin, the whole system could be dumped for a newer model, maybe be set out the back door to be used for potting plants...the rumors abound. I'd take it home with me if I knew how and had the talant...Maybe we could get someone close by to salvage it. Or maybe my forum "exposing right wing corruption has come to the attention of the powers thabe and they decided it was a danger to bnational security. Any other theories?

-- Cherri (whatever@who.cares), June 05, 2002.

Klintooooooooooooooooooon is shutting it down so that he can start World War III and declare himself President for Life. Marshall Law will follow. Pollies will die.

SO:

I don't know the disposition of this particular bboard. They [I have forgotten who "they" are; from Phil's last post he was leaving in mid-May and wouldn't return until mid-Oct] announced last fall that the photo sites would be moved to photo.net. They started moving them last Monday [they have stopped for the moment because "Looks like there's some problems with Oracle (the database engine) and thus we are back to normal for a little while longer. They said they would attempt the process again soon."]

Emails concerning Lusenet's fate have included:

1. Start incorporating advertizing.

2. Shift to new software and perhaps go to an ez board style payment plan.

3. Lastly, shut it down.

You can take your choice. They each said the moderater of your board will have more specific information.

Best Wishes,,,,

Z

They each said the moderater of your board will have more specific information.

Yes, and here is more specific information...

1. Start incorporating advertizing from www.Yourdon.com.

2. Shift to new software and perhaps go to an ez board style payment plan financed by reparations from the script troll who destroyed the Wild Wild West.

3. Lastly, shut it down.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeeD@yahoo.com), June 05, 2002.

Yeah Unk:

I am not a moderater of "this" board, but I really don't know much more that you do. I just have what they email. It seems to be a moving target. ;<))) I just report what I am told.

Best Wishes,,,,,,

Z

-- Z1X4Y7 (Z1X4Y7@aol.com), June 05, 2002.

Thank you Z. We appreciate that you care. Perhaps you can take over the keys here since unk isn't really "into it" anymore. That way we can at least have some idea what's going on.

-- (cin@cin.cin), June 05, 2002.

What's going on is I don't bug Phil with email questions, and he, it seems, cannot be bothered sending the moderator of each board any specific info on the fate of these forums.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeeD@yahoo.com), June 05, 2002.

I just want to say thanks, Unk. Thanks for keeping anything going at all. I know that it has been a lot of time and hassle for you. I think that you know that there are a few people here (and not necessarily just the ones that you agree with)that do appreciate your efforts. I have always appreciated your wit and found that your political philosophy, while not exactly something I would embrace, was at least honest and contained enough common sense to make me think about where I stood on an issue and how your ideas might work in the world.

If things do go TU and not many transition to the next "new" place I want you to know that I do sincerely thank you for allowing me to have this little place to come to and be entertained, pissed off, thoughtful or whatever I needed that day. If you ever get to Iowa drop me a line at cornboy80@hotmail.com and I will make sure that we have a libation or three on me.

Again thanks to you and all the people that I have enjoyed getting to know over the years. I will not try to name you all, as I know that I will forget someone and I do not want to do that. Thanks to you all on behalf of Monkey Spanker also, as some of you might recognize the handle that I used prior to JBT. I hope that the plug is not pulled but if it is, it has been fun.

I just wish that the guy who left Chris' forum to go on the bicycle ride around the world had made it back to report on his trip. He had one of the best send offs of anyone on these forums.

Out of curiosity, does Unk's link lead anywhere? I've tried it from several locations using several browsers, but get only errors.

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), June 06, 2002.

Unk,

Please ignore Cin, she has a terminal condition known as Chronic Bitchiness. Her and Z are the kind of people who like to create problems before they even exist. I for one appreciate your laidback style. If we're going to get nuked, we're going to get nuked, so why make a big fuss about it. You found us a backup forum and that is much appreciated, at least by some of us.

-- (no sweat @ chillout. whiners), June 06, 2002.

Thanks JBT, likewise. It's been a long strange trip indeed.

Flint, works for me, YMMV.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeeD@yahoo.com), June 06, 2002.

Unk, I hope your long strange trip was filled with some wonders, revelations, and joys along the way. I know mine was. And I met some fine people IRL, including you friend!

JBT, ifn you're ever in Tucson, ya got my e. Gimme a buzz and I'll show you the highlights, including a coupla fine microbreweries, as well as some mediocre wineries. I drove by Iowa a coupla weeks ago, and waved to ya!

-- Aunt Bee (Aunt__Bee@hotmail.com), June 06, 2002.

I think Unk should at least admit that he gave up on this place a long time ago and really doesn't care, for whatever reasons he may have. In fact I believe I received a have-a-nice-life from him personally.

By the way, cin is not merely a bitch, she is a super-bitch.

Get it right next time todd.

Gawd I wish trolls would get a life~!

-- Aunt__Bee (Aunt__Bee@hotmail.com), June 07, 2002.

Well, I suppose that, to be honest, this place has slipped on my list of priorities. This past year or so has been unlike any other in my entire life, and because of the many things that have happened both good and bad I have decided to spend more time enjoying life in the real world.

My father-in-law was a good man, a truly good man. Up until a couple of years ago he walked SIXTY miles a week and played senior league softball, also served as the league's president. His passing has left a big hole in a lot of lives and has caused me to even further re- evaluate my life...and I am not pleased with myself in many respects, and regret many things I've done.

But mostly what "Dad's" passing has shown me is just how short our time really is here in this world. It would take me hours to completely put down into words and share with you all the thoughts that are running around in my head, but it's a beautiful sunny day outside, so I ain't gonna.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeeD@yahoo.com), June 07, 2002.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am a real person.

-- (sad@sad.sad), June 07, 2002.

No you're not. You're fictional. I created you and everyone else in this forum.

-- (forum@creat.or), June 10, 2002.

Unk, I love you.

-- helen (ticks@just.use.you), June 10, 2002.

Unk--

You're really a good guy and I hope you stick around. But your priorities are right---real-life is a more important place to be than cyber-life.

Still, there is room for both, and cyber contacts are of value. This forum has entertained me, informed me and caused me to think and research stuff that I would never have imagined. I have made some ongoing friends here. I think everyone's writing and thinking skills have been improved by expressing ourselves.

Thanks for all your efforts on WW West and this not quite "troll-free" saloon.
