Describe the character. "Lou" doesn't sound contemporaneous to Poe and decidedly Brooklynese.

I have my doubts, but if it is a transmogrification of spelling it would be from that "The Cask of of Amontillado" quote concerning the wine Luchesi.Was this some sort of intentional puzzle?
