Did anyone watch "The Hamptons" on ABC last night? Are you going to tune in again tonight? Do you give a flying hoot about these people?

I couldn't bring myself to watch it. As much as I normally like celebrities and watching rich people make idiots out of themselves, I am in no state of mind, financially or personally, to watch a bunch of pretty socialites prance around on the beach and look for love. Can't deal.

Thankfully, I had Bachelorettes in AK to make me feel better about myself.

I watched about the last 15 minutes, after the game went off. I can't wait to see that dog-faced Lizzie Grubman get what's coming to her.

How was Bachelorettes in Alaska? I taped it (I am so pathetic) so hopefully, I will get a chance to watch it before the next episode comes on. I did watch "The Hamptons" but really didn't follow it very closely. The one thing I can say is that it really drove home how differently I feel about things post 9/11. "The Hamptons" was taped last summer and it really made me think about how whether these people are living their lives with less abandon this summer or if it has made any difference at all.

Lord, when did it come on? I was deeply engrossed with HBO for most of the night last night.

Is it trashy? It sounds trashy, and now that 6 Feet Under aired the season finale, I have an empty place in my heart that needs fillin'. Trashy drama would fit very nicely.

Ohhhh, I hated it! It was so boring! I guess I was expecting *some* sort of plot or character development. But no, it was just little soundbytes of random people rarely revisited. Plus (and I only feel a little bad saying this), the people were *not* as beautiful as they are purported to be (in fact, I can think of a number of MATHletes much more stunning than any of the Hamptons folk I saw). And the houses? A lot of them were less than impressive.

Also, the attitude towards so-called "normal" people was repulsive. Every five minutes a bouncer was bitching about townies or whatever.

And! I just about fell off my bed when this old guy and a woman- socialite were singing "God Bless America" and talking about how getting to the Hamptons is the "American Dream" and how no one they knew was born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Everyone at this particular party, in fact, had "made it." Riiiiight.

Robyn, it was on last night from 9-11 p.m. and again tonight from 9-11 p.m.

Like I said before, I really wasn't paying close attention to what was going on but it did seem awfully random. The people that they seemed to continue to show were the woman lawyer (I think) that was husband shopping because she had to be married by 30 with children by 32, etc., etc. and the girls from Ireland.

And Alison, the "God Bless America" speech killed me too...please pardon us the patronizing patriotism.

Nice alliteration, Dawn. But, I'm a dork that way.

I just started watching it tonight, and this is cracking me up - such a great example of 'the tacky ten percenters'.

I laughed and laughed and laughed.

I loved that when they presented Billy Joel with that award that it seemed as if they were in a high school auditorium. When they panned through the audience, there sat Jerry Seinfeld and his schmoopy, as well as other famous faces that I can't remember right now, sitting in non-front row orange naugahide (no clue on the spelling of that word) seats.

How fitting was it that within 24 hours (seemingly) of the owner of Nick & Tony's being killed, the conversation turned to what to wear to the funeral?

How about Alexa Joel on the piano at the end? I am a closet Billy Joel addict (stop making fun of me) so it was really interesting to me to hear his daughter on the piano.

Miss Alexa looks exactly like her daddy! She got 99% of his DNA, the 1% she got from mom was boobs apparently. Her piano playing was excellent.

Why were we constantly revisiting the Australian Chicks drama? I nearly fell asleep. Also the Insanely Desperate Thirtysomething Attorney with the bad bangs was just sad. She's acting out her life from some lame script, not actually LIVING it. The Grocery Girls with Expressive Nails -- they finally got where they wanted to be, and found out it's just dancing cheek to cheek with some perverted rich old hippie with a grown-out perm. And that sad sack Josh, going up to every tall blond at the party and telling her she's beautiful. Like her modeling paycheck doesn't tell her that every day.

And I never found out if Lizzie Grubman got what was coming to her.

That's 'cause the case hasn't gone to trial yet, I don't think. I googled for it, and most of the news updates ended in April when her plea bargain was turned down. I don't know when the trial will be. .
