I just did a report on him and they say he died from "congestion of the brain"

The symptoms do not match. It is one of those intriguing term paper stretches that relies on sketchy data. Just the fact that Poe wanted and drank water at the end is pretty damning against the notion though. It might be discussed at www.eapoe.org in this regard.

His health and symptoms are consistent with long term damage done by alcohol, whatever precipitated his last condition.
