Laptop Computer Wanted!greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread |
I'm interested in getting my hands on a laptop computer in fair shape. Doesn't have to be anything great - something that will run WIN95 at least -WIN98 would be better yet. Even an older 486 in good condition would do the job I need it for - anyone got one layin' around you'd be interested in trading for or selling? Let me know if you do!Thanks!

Phil, Do you want it for connecting to the net, or just for the storage stuff? I have a Dell Latitude, PentiumI that I bought for reasons that did not work out at all. ( Same model as mine - long story). It has modem capabilities but no modem. Has the smaller screen and track ball. It is a nice little machine, have to check and see what is on it. For some reason, I think Win 98.
Also -- - you really should check Ebay. Personally, I'm fond of Dell, and I really like the 7000 and 7500, the latter seem to go a lot higher, but the 7000 is a nice machine, and if you bide your time, they can be found at really nice prices, considering what they cost just a couple years ago. If you buy the Dell rehabs from rental, and buy from a DELL rep. . . . sometimes they still come with warranty left on the ticket.

I need one to run a couple programs necessary for a long-term project I'm doing. So mostly storage and that's about it. What would you need for yours from this dirt-poor Kansas homesteader :-)? I'm definitely interested if I can afford it. Oh ... does it have a CD ROM on it? That's pretty important, too. Thanks!

Oops! You are right. The CD rom thing. The MOST important thing of all today. And it does NOT have one.Phil, I bought a nice latitude PI with modem,( it was set up with the fancy networking and stuff I don't understand) lots of storage space, CD Rom, for $120.00 on Ebay. It is strictly for the grandkids, and it is loaded with all the Jump Start and Knowledge Adventure games, and, of course. . . Scooby Dooby Do ! !
It works like a champ.
