Question on M7 packaging

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I just picked up my new M7 today and noticed a small pinkish red "0" rubber stamped on the serial number cards in the box, and on the serial number label on the outside of the box.

Anyone know what this is? My other Leica equipment has nothing of the sort.

Can't wait to burn up some film in the morning...

The "O" is for obsolete, since the new M7 with improved viewfinder (no flair) will make its grand entrance at Photokina.

That's great news, since the M8 is coming out at Photokina I will have one of the lowest production M bodies ever made (3/02-9/02 total production time), surely the next MP.

I should be able to pay for a new car with my take from this project, but No!, I already peeled off the plastic on the baseplate...

I hate to be pedantic.... but the word is "flare"....not "flair".

Oh, I dunno, John!

A chrome DS M3 has no 'flare'. By comparison, the M7 has no 'flair'.

(sorry - couldn't resist!)

Rick Pinto at PhotoVillage reports that ALL Leica's packaging is changing to silver boxes 'sted white. Also no more plastic internal boxes for the camera bodies - true?

ECH! I guess we won't see red boxes again until Leica starts shipping cameras with black paint as a standard option.

Surely it stands for "0verpriced".

no no no !! they are using all the leftover boxes from the null ("0") series cameras that did not sell (which means they basically have the entire run to use up).
