Lets write a story

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A Country Singletree : One Thread

When I was in high school, Miss Giles would give us off days in modern lit by having us write improvisational stories starting with a subject noun she would give us (the farther out, the more fun they were :>). Each student would say three descriptive sentences that were recorded into the draft. The only rule being that you had to link your three sentence contribution to at least one subject noun of the previous contribution and the story had to add a new subject noun or change in action at least every four contributions. We came up with a few stories akin to "a unicorn in the garden" or "hitch hikers guide to the universe". We even had a stage play based on an improv story of the neurotic classroom doorknob once. What you think? Anyone feeling creative? Theres a pig snout sandwich waiting on the second shelf of the fridge waiting to hear its story told. :>)

I love these "add on" stories; but, truth be told, I slurp at "English Composition". I don't believe that I would know a subject noun if it bit me on the rear! Explain it to me in simple terms and I'll join in - but do we really have to tell the story of the pig snout snadwich - eeewwwww!!

Polly,

Thats the beatiful part of it. When its your turn to write, you can whatever you want to with it, just as long as it has flow. If you dont like the pig snout, make it go away. There is no "right or wrong" , only fun. We will start after we have at least 5 people to play and we can random select a start writer. Three more brave ones to sign on?

I'll be brave and play. Angie

-- AngieM2 (ameining@ingr.com), May 31, 2002.

I'll play! (But not at work of course!)

-- Sherry (tlnifty@ecenet.com), May 31, 2002.

I'll play! Are we going to close it after a certin time or can people join the story anytime?

Fun idea Jay! So what got you feeling so creative all of a sudden?

-- Susan in MN (nanaboo@paulbunyan.net), May 31, 2002.

We'll run it for awhile, then agree on an ending time and the last 4 selected will have to work an ending flow. The initial random selection posistions are Susan in Mn, Polly , Sherry , Angie2 , and me.

Susan feel free to do it here or start a new post. We all add our pieces to your line and switch with flow. Let the insanity er I mean writing begin :>)

What got me "creative" was trying to get away from all the CS BS of late.

-- Jay Blair in N. AL (jayblair678@yahoo.com), May 31, 2002.

Oh? A bit a BS and yowlin' gets your creative juices flowing?

I'll have to stir the pot more in the name of ART! Greater good, after all.

*saunters away snickering*

Patty,

It doesn't need stirring now, only gentle folding:>) Are you in on the second wave of creative writers?

-- Jay Blair in N. AL (jayblair678@yahoo.com), May 31, 2002.

Oh sure put me on the spot! Okay do I have to use the pig snout sandwich or can I start something brand new? That is the last question then I'll post tomorrow on a new thread. I hope you have a catagory for this Jay!!

Susan

Can other folks join in as the story gets going, Jay? How long is this story supposed to be? There've been a couple over at gardenweb that have gone to the post limit; which is 100 posts!

-- Polly (tigger@moultrie.com), May 31, 2002.

Susan,

No you do not have to use a pig snout . Its your call. #1 has it easier , they don't have to link to anything. Get creative.

Polly,

Bring em on. We'll start a 2nd wave of writers. I guess the timeframe will have to be 7 days unless you want me to raise the new thread life higher to keep it on board longer.

I'm not single but can I come in and play? I like writin'.

-- Alison in NS (aproteau@istar.ca), June 04, 2002.

Alison, you don't need to be single, everyone is welcome. This is Jay's game but I don't think he will care! I bet he will contact you soon! I think there is a second round of stories in the works.

Jay? BTW what happened to Angie2's piece of the story. Posted my second one because I was after you but I didn't see her's.!?
