Where to buy replacement parts for Leica M?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I lost the lens hood cover (part #14043) on my Summicron 35/2 recently. I checked the Leica webpage and found a German phone number and address for inquires. Is there a place in the U.S. where I can order this part? Generic would be fine.

I hope you're ready for the price. I lost mine (the exact same part number) last year and it cost me ~$40 for a replacement. Leica USA in Northvale, NJ will sell you one. They're very quick.

B&H & Adorama probably have it, too. Just do a text search for "Leica" and "14043." I recently bought a replacement 14040 hood cap for my 35/1.4 Summilux from Adorama--their prices was significantly cheaper than B&H, but it had to be back-ordered.

As I note on the above page, for international buyers you will have to place an indent order with your local Leica distributor to get the part. You cannot contact Leica USA or Germany directly. Well, you can, but they will just bounce you back to the local Leica distributor.

I found this out the hard way when I wanted to buy the #12550 Elmar-M hood (for my 50mm Summicron!). I sent an email to Leica NJ, who then bounced the mail to Leica Solms, who then bounced the mail back to Adeal in Melbourne (the Australian Leica distributor). So I then had to place an order with Adeal, who then placed the order with Leica Solms.

Two months later I got the lenshood. So Much For Globalism…

The hood cover cost me about $50 plus shipping at B&H (special ordered) 4 years ago. In Tokyo, the same part cost me $9 new at a major Leica specialist. It pays to shop around for these things.
