Minilux focus problems

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I am experimenting with my Leica Minilus and am running to some focus problems. I am not sure if this could be solved by the aperture priority setting; here is the problem:

- when multiple subjects in the composition ( three peopele) the picture is clear in the central region but the other subjects are out of focus (they are relatively close to each other +or- 5 inches)

- same problem arrises when subjects are in a line with subject one closest to the camera and subject 3 the furthest.

any pointers here. ( with my other point and shoots these type of focusing and SLR this type of focusing has not been a problem)

Thanks Rick

The faster lens on the Minilux compared to the average P&S does get you into trouble because of the limited DOF at wide apertures in the close range, and if you shoot on "P" you can't tell what aperture is being set without looking on the top LCD. That said, the DOF of a 40mm lens at f/2.4 at the Minilux's closest focusable distance is still more than 5 inches, so I'm a bit puzzled by your results.
