eos 1

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi there, i was hoping you could help me. I'm looking to buy an eos 1. How old is the eos 1 and what is the difference between it and the new eos1N? I found an Eos 1 for $500 US, is that a good deal? the seller says theres a bit of wear and tear on the exterior but the inner workings are fine. Also is there any comparison between an eos 1 and an eos elan 7? thanks a bunch, val T

I don't personally know the history of the various EOS 1 models, but Canon does have a historical section on their corporate web page. I would expect you could answer many of your questions there.

The EOS-1 debuted around 1989, the EOS-1n around 1994. The improvements on the 1n over the 1 are five focusing points vs. one, faster autofocusing, slightly faster frame advance rate (6 vs. 5.5), mirror lockup, better moisture and dust seals, and others. One wouldn't compare the 1 with the Elan 7 since they are targeted at different markets. The 7 is a midrange consumer camera and the 1 series is targeted at professionals, so it's able to withstand more abuse.

$500 for a used 1 seems average to me.

$500 for a used body "with a bit of wear and tear" seems too high to me - maybe $500 with the booster.

$500 is almost fair for a mint EOS 1, but is way too much for anything in a lower grade. Consider that a new EOS 3 or EOS 1N is $800 to $900 at B&H. A refurbished or mint EOS 1N/EOS 3 goes for about $600-650. The newer pro models are much better than the old EOS 1 in every way.

Get an EOS 1N or EOS 1N-RS at keh.com, theํr prices are quite reasonable there.
