I have owned a .454 for about ten years now. I don"t know why everyone complains about the recoil, it is just a handgun. Sure a relativly hard kicking one but my hands don't go numb. The most I've noticed is the skin on my palms getting rubbed off from the cherkering on the grip when the pistol rotates upward during recoil. As far as a good rnd goes, It is the only pistol I carry as a proffesional guide in grizzly country. On black bears at aprox. five ft the bullet enters the head and exits the rear end. On a grizzly approx. seven hundred lbs at 15 yds the bullets enter the head or neck and totally penetrate it, from the chest side a bullet will totally penetrate the chest cavity and if it hits the spin e it will stop, destroying the spine. On moose at 15 ft sideways it breaks one shoulder going in, breaks the other shoulder going out and leaves a hole all the way through the animal. Also it knocks a running wounded moose off it's feet if the range is under 25 yds. I highlly recommend any guide in bear country to aquire one and as for hunting it will be difficult to beat.

well I have owned a super red hawk for 6 mo. now and when I shoot we shoot 75 to 150 rounds at least once a month. Sure some of the hotter loads will make you shake your hand but when you want less than 1" drop at 75 to 100 yards. it makes it all worth while. Mineis a91/2" barrel, we got the loads dwn toabout .45 fist loading and just primer powder and lead shot a 454 lever action rifle 355gr cor-bon sweet, wven in the pistle sweeeet.

By the way i have a Ruger Super Redhawk .454 for sale. Including 10 boxes of factory ammo Magtech (20/box). The gun is located in Gothenburg Sweden and only fired 18 shots because of painful recoil. price 7000 swedish crowns + ammo.

i got a glove,it helps a lot!i've been shooting xtp mags jhp's from hornady, they do real good,i have used them in .44mag(xtp's in 44cal) on deer and yotes and such with great luck,i am going to try to pour some 454's about as hard as i can get them,i found some alloy that is supposed to be a 22hardness and might try to harden that a little,i tried some .45 colt 255 grain lswc's and just about had to hire some miners to get all the lead out of the barrel,i had the same problem with my 9x23 and i just have to shoot jacketed bullets from it, or spend a great deal of time cleaning the lead out, casull has a 38casull he is making on a 1911 platform, i think it's a .45 case necked to 38 cal, i thought i might want one(i really really do)but at $2400.00 it's a bit steep for me(but i can dream!).www.casullarms.com for those that like to read about such things, now if i get a third job!humm!bobby p.s. ggreat to see everybody safe and still around, kinda like a second home, the quail turned out gggreat, will post this week, bobby

Hi guys! I´m still here although I´m more listening and learning than contributing to the site. One (1) week left in what Paul accurately called FuckoKosovo and then it´s just a short debriefing away from freedom! To all you guys who are thinking about a tour in K i have but one advice, DONT!!! Cant wait to get home to Per and pick up all my guns and get shooting again. Enjoy your fame while you can Per, I will attend the next comp. Larix

Im still here, just havent seen lots of activity after a few of my posts. Let us know how the 454 works on the game. Ive been thinking bout one of those too but since most of my shooting experience is with rifles and from a .44 mag under Im leary about that 454 after reading the ballistics on it..especially if it makes your hands go numb after a while. a .480 with a bit less velocity though looks enticing. Turkey seasons almost over and no place to go :(. Jon

What bullets you´re using? Cast or jacketed? I´ve done no shooting with anything above .44 (xept .45 acp), but from what I´ve read the LBT bullet molds where perfect for game. I believe they´ve shut down. Now you get yourself a PAST glove or you´ll end up with a permanent hand damage in only a few hundred rounds.

Quail? Ain´t got no quail around here. How about crow?

yep!it is a boomer, pushes a 300gr jhp a little over 1700fps,a little ruff on the hands though,i sighted in with 255's doing about 1900fps,a bit easier to handle, and shoot more than six shots at one time without your hands going numb, but i like to shoot a couple of the 300's each time just to get used to them, thats what i'll hunt with, so i want to get to where i can put them where they need to go without much thought(hard to think while something's chaseing me up a tree)coyote season is back in here and i want to try it out on one,i got a couple last week but couldn't get a shot i would trust for it,so had to dump them with the .243,mybe find a dumb one(not much of a chance)but the season's just starting, going to try a new quail recipe tommarow if it works ill post so you can try it,if it dont i'll post it so you dont, bobby

I´m here! Paul´s working his ass off, Larix is not back from Kosovo for another 3-4 weeks, the rest I do not know. I guess that the screw-ups with the old boards has put a lot in the "off" mode. Shame, really.

What kind a "boomer" is it, mate? I´ve always dreamt about a Freedom Arms. Say it ain´t!
