550 EX compatible with any MF camera?

That is, are there any medium format cameras--made by anybody--that can use Canon's 550 EX flash, with all or most of its features intact?

I've never heard of any camera maker using another camera maker's proprietary TTL protocols on a camera body offhand, though my knowledge on these things is far, far from complete.

The EX series speedlites are used for other media and in different formats. For instance, some Powershot digital cameras have a compatible hotshoe (but not fully compatible function). As do some digital camcorders from Canon.

Of course there is the possibility of using an hotshoe optical slave trigger to sync the 550EX, which would give you all of the inconvenience, and only some of the power and some of the control of studio flash.

If you want to do TTL flash with a medium format camera, you'll want a different flash. The few medium format cameras that do TTL usually use an "SCA" adapter to connect to third party flashes like Metz. Luckily you could use something like a Metz to do TTL on an MF camera as well as an EOS (or even E-TTL with the latter).
