A few months ago I traded my Leica R equipment for M...something I regret now. I have difficulties getting used to a RF system and therefore I decided to sell my equipment and turn back to SLR.

Eric, Sorry to hear about that, but how long have you used the M intensively for? I had a similar experience when I switched from SLR to rangefinder, and very very nearly sold up, but Im glad that I didnt. This is esp true for yourself as you have a lot of M gear.

Dear Karl,

Thank you for your concern, but my mind is made up. For some time I was hesitant in placing this add, especially since I required the noctilux only a few weeks ago. However, I just feel that I am better off with a SLR, and I offer the M set to the forum first as all items are in excellent condition.

Eric:

Sell the Noctilux, but keep the 35 and the 90 for a few more months before you dump everything -- Clearly the M is not for everybody, but perhaps you should take a bit more time to be sure...

Eric, I second Jack's advice. It took me the best part of a year before I understood what the M camera was all about;but then I'm usually slow in these photographic matters ;-)

I'll second (or third) the above. I was worried about just what you've found out, luckily I held onto my SLR gear and bought a Hexar Classic to experiment with. It took well over a year of regular use before I was comfortable enough to dump the Olympus stuff and Hexar and get Leica. However I eventually wound up getting a basic R setup as well because there are things that a rangefinder won't do (tell me it ain't so ;-). Keep the M6 and the 35, sell the rest and get your SLR. But the first time you need real low light capability or stealth ability you'll regret getting rid of it all.

Eric, you are going to miss the shutter sound of the M6. Trust me.

Eric

Many of us always say you should never sell your reflex gear to get an M - now we can say we told you so. Sorry, but it is true. The M Leicas are not for everyone. I still find the viewfinder annoying with its constant mag view and often difficult to see frames. M-lenses are also more difficult to change for my hands than with an R or reflex camera. So you have found out the hard way. The good thing is that Ms keep their value pretty well. Good luck with the change and sorry to hear this. Still now at least you have sampled the Leica M mystique and so you know whether it was you.

My understand is that the M's and R's compliment each other. Why not just hang on the M6 and the 35 summicron for now. Go and get an R camera (r8 or r6.2) for now. Shoot with both systems see if you still want to sell the M6. If you do you can always sell it then. Good luck

Thank you all for your friendly advice, I do appreciate that. I guess I learned the hard way and I am not in the financial possibility to keep the M gear and buy a SLR setup. I also want to take my time before rushing into new equipment, let this all setlle for awhile and then decide on what to get.

The 35 cron is tentatively sold.

Eric I'm sorry to hear that the rangefinder didn't work out for you. Please say in touch. I for one enjoyed your viewpoints and contributions. Speaking from past experience Don't take to long in deciding on another system. The longer you wait the harder it is to get back into it. Best of luck Andy

Thanks Andy.
I will certainly keep reading and posting in this forum as I find it very informative and I appreciate most of the content. I am seriously considerring getting a R setup again, and what would be a better place than this to ask advice, share opinions?
I am surprised by the amount of responses to my add though. When I posted the add for the R lenses you bought from me, they were sold in one day. Now I have M gear in the same or better shape and most of the questions are about the 35 cron. Anyway, I am in no hurry and I hope to sell the items to one of the forum members here.
