We are having kittens!

Our mother cat had one just a little while ago! The kids are so excited. When she was squalling, poor Brady was in tears... I can't wait until morning to see what she has and how many. I think we already have homes for at leat 4 of them if she has that many...

Little kittens are so cute, Buckwheat had 6 about 6 weeks about 5 black and 1 white. They're at that really cute stage, starting to play with each other. Had to put one down last week. Idee had her first litter just a few days ago, don't know how many, but she rejected them or just too young to know. Gary's neice is going to try to save the one we found.

This morning she has had 4. The kids ran up at 6 am to see. I have not went up and looked yet!

Our cat, Shadow, had 6 kittens just 3 weeks ago. They are all solid black - just like her - cute as the dickens. I was concerned about whether or not she would be a good momma, because I had bottle raised her and she'd never been exposed to a real momma cat. But when I found her in the middle of having the kittens, she wasn't even meowing. I reached down to pet her and she was purring while she was giving birth! She has been the best momma cat I've ever seen. She is super attentive. If she's out of their box and one of them meows, she in there like a shot. If my girls take kittens out of the box to hold them and play with them, she follows the girls and stares at them wide-eyed, just to make sure that her babies are okay. It's so neat! Then, a couple of days ago, one of our barn cats (Romeo, who is probably their dad) slipped in the front door when my youngest was going outside. He made a beeline for the back room where Shadow and the kittens were (as well as the cat food bowl which is probably what he was really after), and I've never heard such a ruckus! Shadow was all over that tom cat! He couldn't get out the door fast enough, and he sure hasn't tried to get back in since! :-)

Ours are 3 weeks old; no takers on any of them. The papers are full of ads for free kittens and our neighbours have some too. We have four, 3 black and white and 1 gray and white. I was hoping for an all black, since that's what we thought the father was. I don't know yet what we are going to do with them. If we had a barn and more animals, I'd have a good start on barn cats. Maybe I'll check some farmers around here:o).

I just went up and gave her some feed, and a can of tuna for a treat... She pounced on it when she smelled it, but I could not get a good look at the kittens. It is kind of dark in there and I did not have a light. Then it started pouring rain (surprise, surprise) and I hurried back to the house. I will have to take a light up later and see what they look like...
