Today, May 28, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Bernard of Montjoux (Italian, nobleman, Augustinian priest, diocesan vicar-general in Alps, namesake of St. Bernard dogs, d. 1008)
St. Caraunus of Chartres (French, hermit, deacon, martyred in 5th century)
Sts. Crescens, Dioscorides, Paul, and Helladius (Roman, martyred by burning c. 244)
Sts. Emilius, Felix, Priamus, and Lucian (early martyrs)
St. Germanus of Paris (French, abbot, archbishop, d. 576)
St. Gizur (Icelandic, bishop, d. 1117)
St. Heliconis of Thessalonica (Greek, virgin, marytred by beheading c. 250)
Bl. John Shert, Bl. Thomas Ford, and Bl. Robert Johnson (English, priests, martyred [drawn, hanged, quartered] by Elizabethans in 1582)
St. Justus of Urgell (Spanish, bishop, commentator on Song of Songs, c. 528)
Bl. Margaret Pole [nee Plantagenet] (English, niece of two kings, mother of five, widow, governess of Princess Mary [daughter of Henry VIII], martyred by beheading at age 70 in 1541)
St. Paul Hanh (Vietnamese, repentant outlaw, tortured and martyred by beheading in 1859 [canonized 1988])
St. Podius of Florence (Italian, Augustinian canon, bishop, d. 1002)
St. Senator of Milan (Italian, archbishop, d. 480)
Bl. Stephen of Narbonne and eleven companions (French, priests [Benedictines, Franciscans, Dominicans, and diocesan], inquisitors, martyred by Albigensian heretics in 1242)
St. William of Gellone (French, duke, knight opposing Moslem invaders, Benedictine brother, d. 812)
