tripod collar for Canon 70-200 f/4

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Just bought a new 70-200f/4 lens and I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to the 'white' collar. Heard that the black collar that fits the 200 f2.8 will also fit the 70-200 f/4 and is much cheaper. Is that correct?

Yes, I bought the black on at B&H for about $75 and it works perfectly! I was glad it fit because I really didn't want to spend over $115 for a white collar.

I don't know why Canon does that other than just seeking pure profit in the higher price of the white one, because Canon and B&H will tell you that the black one WILL NOT fit the 70-200 f4L...an outright lie! Oh well, not much we can do but buy the black one anyway.

Good luck,

Dan

At B&H, the white Tripod Mounting Ring A is $113.95. The black Tripod Mounting Ring A is $78.95. Other than the color of the paint, they are the same. Look in Home > Photo > Cameras, Lenses & Accessories > 35mm Body & Lens Accessories > Lens Accessories > Other Lens Accessories > Canon.

Hey thanks guys for the responses. Looks like I can save a few bucks on the tripod collar. Can't understand why Canon would bother to be so petty about such a dumb thing. Surely they must realise that most people are going to work it out and just get the cheaper version. Cheers all!
