this is the answer leica gives for their lenses tendency to fog/etch:

"There a few reasons for the fogging, haze, etching. It could be age, how the lens has been stored and atmospheric conditons of an area. You can send them to our Service Dept for evaluation and/ or repair."

of course, nothing to do with radioactive glasses, coating materials and techniques, choice of lubes, and/or mechanical design or construction. only user fault, even though brand N and H do not have the same problems as our brand L do.
